Year 4 2021
Happy New Year
I hope you are all safe and well and have enjoyed the Christmas holidays. Unfortunately, we are back to learning online again. Most of the work you will be doing at home will be on Seesaw. Please try your best to work through the tasks. You can either do your work on paper, then upload a photo of it to me, or you can complete the work on the template in Seesaw.
The spelling lists are in Seesaw, but you can now practise these words in Sumdog as well as use it for Maths. Don't forget to read using Oxford Reading Buddy too.
I am looking forward to seeing the work you have completed.
If you have any problems, please message me either on Seesaw or by ringing the school.

Hi Everyone,
Hope you've all been staying safe and have been enjoying some fun outdoors in the sun this half term. While we are all still at home I expect that you will continue to try your best with the home learning. This week we will learn about negative numbers in numeracy, work in literacy will centre around the film 'The Ugly Sharkling' and we will start our work on mountains.
There is a National Sumdog Competition starting on Friday 5th June, which runs until Friday 11th. I would like you all to use Sumdog for Mathematics as much as you can during this period. We must have at least 10 pupils using Sumdog in order to qualify. If you answer 100 questions correctly you will receive an item for your Sumdog house. I will be watching the leaderboard and undating you on our ranking. So good luck everyone. Keep up the good work.

Hello Everybody,
Thank you yet again for your hard work this term. I have been so pleased with the effort that has been made with new topics in Numeracy and with writing tasks. Over the half term I will not be sending you work each day as it is a holiday, so enjoy the break. However, if there are any tasks that you need to complete please do so. Also you will find one new task in j2e and Seesaw, which I'm sure you will enjoy doing. It is a Star wars coding activity. The link can also be found below.

Hi again,
Well done everyone for your efforts this week. In particular, Cai who is this week's j2 stars winner. Remember every time you use Oxford reading Buddy you get 10 stars. That's the quickest way to gain lots of stars.
From today pupils will be able to gain coin rewards each day they use SumDog. Rewards will be for either spelling, grammar or maths. I will decide on the amount of coins, so in making my decision I will be looking closely at how much time is spent on SumDog and how many questions are answered.
Well done those of you that had a go at the persuasive writing task. I was impressed with Tilly's plan and Riley's letter. Riley also made an excellent job of the Welsh task too. Da iawn! Most of all, I was amazed at how you all tackled the concept of finding a fraction of an amount in Mathematics. Simply awesome! Well done to you all!
Below are listed some of the skills and activities we will be practising in the next two weeks.

Hello Everyone,
Well done all of you for working so hard this week. I am pleased again to see a few more pupils completeing the daily tasks, particularly showing that they have understood the work on fractions. Through your hard work, many of you have gained lots of stars in j2e this week. Lots of pupils now have over 100 stars. At the moment the race for first place is very close, but at the end of the week this was still held by Cai. Very well done Cai, as well as Macey, Gracie and Ellie who have been using Oxford reading Buddy this week.
Stay safe and keep up the good work that you are doing.

Hi there, 01/05/20
Hope you are all still in good spirits and are fit and well. This week I was especially pleased to see a few more pupils completeing the daily tasks. Well done to you all and keep it. Don't worry too much about all the work in the shared file on j2e you've missed, just join in with next Monday's tasks. If you do have any spare time have a look at the division tasks.
I am pleased to see that Sophie, Ellie, Cai, Macey and McKenzie have regularly used Sumdog this last week, some of you even having a go at the spelling. Keep it up! Riley too, is the first pupil to use j2Blast for spelling and maths.
For these next two weeks you will find some new activities on Seesaw, mainly to practice the use of punctuation, telling the time and area and perimeter. There is a new assessments on telling the time in Sumdog too.
In j2e we will be working on these areas:
From next week I will be doubling the number of stars you get for reading and completing a quiz in Oxford Reading Buddy.
So keep reading!

Hi Everyone, 24/04/20
Just a quick note to say thank you again to those pupils who have completed the home learning tasks, especially as the weather has been so beautiful.
The pupil who earned the highest amount of j2stars this week is Cai. Well done Cai you've made an outstanding effort particularly with your Maths and Reading.
The gap between 1st and 2nd place has narrowed considerably, but Alfie is still in front. Your explanation of day and night was very well written too Alfie.
I have enjoyed reading the stories, and would particularly like to mention Tilly for her imaginative innovation on Little Red Riding Hood. Well done Tilly, your picture was amazing too.
Don't forget to try some of the tasks on Seesaw which Ellie and Sophie have been working on this week. Well done girls!

Hi Everyone,
Hope you are all fit and well and eager to get back to school work. I was pleased to hear that some of you have enjoyed the work that I've put online, and am delighted that some of you have completed a few tasks over Easter. Well done!
This term, we will start with science related to day and night and the planets. Later on we will work on our new topic, Mountains. Unlike last term, I will be putting the work into j2e on a daily basis. Please look on the Class Blog (not the home page) each day for a list of tasks to complete. Most of the tasks will involve using j2e. If you are using the j2launch app remember to log in with the HWB link.
In the next 2 weeks pupils will work on the following activities:
Reading
Please try and use SeeSaw as you can record yourself reading a page of your book here. Also please don't forget Oxford Reading Buddy. It is important that pupils answer the questions after reading a book, as moving up a level depends upon how well they do in the quiz.
Sum Dog
I have put a times tables assessment onto Sum Dog for pupils to complete. Other than this, work on SumDog, in the next 2 weeks, will focus on telling the time. Please rememeber that you can practise spelling and grammar on SumDog too. Please give it a go.

Well done to everybody who has completed some of their online work. In particular, a big thanks to all the parents and family members who have helped the children.
Every week I will announce which pupils have gained the most points. Points are gained by completeing tasks. This week the j2e Stars winner is Alfie Thomas, followed closely by McKenzie Owens and Jacob Jones. Well done! Keep up the good work. I will be keeping a note of each week's winner so that they can be rewarded when school returns to normal.
New work for next week is already planned and will appear in j2e on Monday morning. Please encourage your child to spend some time each day on this. Please don't forget to use Sum Dog too, as you can now practise spellings there as well as do Maths. For some fun activities you need to look in Seesaw.

Hi Everyone,
Just an update for those of you that have started your home learning. Well done to everyone who's had a go at the tasks I've put into shared files in j2e on the hwb. Points have been rewarded to pupils, which you might be able to see in j2e stars.
There is a new link/tile on the j2e page called 'Homework'. It is a green square. You will find another task in there for you to think about. You will also find a new folder of work revising multiplication. Please watch the video before trying th task. Future Maths tasks will be presented in this way.
Rememeber to use Oxford Reading Buddy. The school code is fxtqn.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Due to school closure, pupils will need to continue their learning online. In year 4, pupils regularly use SumDog in class and often use this to complete mathematical challenges and assessments. This will continue and I will be able to control the topics that they will work on.
Please ensure that your child uses Oxford Reading Buddy to read. They need to complete the assesment for each book read so that I can monitor their progress.
Spelling and tables practice can be carried out through the Hwb by using j2Blast in j2e. Pupils will find other work in in j2e within shared files for them to complete. There is project work about the Olympics and Maths and Literacy will be added soon. Some of this may be colour coded either red, yellow or green. Pupils are used to this and should know which colour to select. I will be able to communicate to your child about their work in j2e using the learning conversations (speech bubbles) in their files.
As well as online tasks it would be particularly useful for pupils to practice writing by hand whenever they can, paying careful attention to the correct letter formation. e.g. Making shopping lists.
Wishing you all the best in these difficult times
